It's That Time Again

Ok boys and girls, it's time for me to get into "whiny bitch" mode and I know at least some us are aware of how much I really love to whine and bitch :) Plus... I bring visual aids!

First off...The Scenario:

This is a snapshot of what I am dealing with. Each one of these very annoying and heinously titled folders, is the owner of a targa sequence. As you can see, the highlighted folder I like to call, "easy to remember folder Comp FWB_015_a_c043a", is the owner of a shitload of equally easy to remeber tga (targa) still images. They are numbered in sequence and when laid out next to each other in sequential order at 1 frame each, they make a piece of a moving picture. As if that whole process isn't annoying enough, when I tried to pump these out earlier (as seen in my earlier post) in After Effects, the shit hit the fan. It was dropping frames and the sync was all off. Twas a real bummer. Ok onto Scenario 02...LETS GO!!!!

Scenario 02:

Here is a nicely composed screen cap of a glorified version of what I had to do. Keep in mind the about to be described process has to be applied to each and every shot, so multiply this process by a few hundred or so. Ok so breaking it down, #1 represents the targa sequence laid out frame by frame to make a moving picture. # 2 represents those nasty nasty targas nested into one video clip. This makes it easier to handle the little fuckers. #2 is also the final color graded footage, composited and re-cropped for her pleasure. #3 represents the first round of reference footage sent from Beijing with a comped background and clip code reference burned into the picture. #4 represents the original footage sans compositing or color correction. Of course at the end of this all I disable layers 1, 3 & 4 but I tried to present this in a form that was easier to relate to. This way you all you at home can vaguely grasp what I am bitching about!! Ok so gonna get back to this mess on Saturday, its dinner time. More bitching to come no doubt!!

Working Hard

Ok so I know I haven't been posting recently but believe it or not I have been working hard. I am in this sort of limbo stage at the moment as far as RED projects are concerned. Space Lover is in grading at the moment and there are still some compositing scenes and CG renders that are making their way from Beijing via FTP (slow as hell). I was supposed to work on those today but they got pushed back to Thursday. On the Maitreya front, Digger T. is still in LA at Comic Con, haven't heard from him since he landed, don't suspect I will till he gets back to HK and sleeps it off for a few days/weeks. So thats great cuz it frees me up to work like a dog on other things, the kind that pay :) All though let me say this, the good paying jobs are always the most boring as hell pinch me so I know this isn't a nightmare the clock is moving backwards I wanna kill myself why are these windows sealed sorta way. Grueling.

Well soldiering on here...will have some posts up soon!

The Difference Between Day and Day

Picture 01 is what it looks like when the winds are from the south.  Picture 02 is what it looks like when the winds come from the north. Up north is a country I unfortunately must remain vague about until after that event with the 5 circled logo has finished. This is what people have to look forward to.

Just so we are clear with what you are seeing.  In picture 02, that is not fog, there are no clouds in the sky and the sun is shinning.

:(

Blind Generation

So here we have it, Blind Generation! It's in HD folks but Vimeo will only let you see it in HD from their site.  Annoying but oh well. To see it in HD, click on the HD button in the Vimeo overlay interface and you will be given a link and redirected to there site. Thanks to everyone of whom without, this project would not have been possible. Please take the time to watch the end credits so we can give all these people the credit they deserve. Ya'll rock, all's yuz all's!  Enjoy!!

Music Video: Blind Generation
Written, Directed & Produced: Digger T. Mesch

Director of Post Production: MrVix
Executive Producer: Dan Carew

Song: Blind Generation
Artist: Gregory Moore
Produced and Arranged: Gary Gibbons
Format: Shot on the RED ONE camera at 4k or 4096 x 2304 (for anyone who cares)
Final Output: HD 1920 x 1080 @ 25p
Vimeo Output: HD 1280 x 720 @ 25p

UPDATE: I have already updated the edit once for a few minor content errors but just so you know, Dan, by way of busting my technical balls, has persuaded me to make a true 25p version as opposed to the 50i version that is currently playing.  I will be doing this sometime tonight so for any of you who were wondering (like all 2 of you who may even know what interlaced versus progressive is) be prepared for the real deal 25p extravaganza!!! More soon.

UPDATE 02: So hopefully this will be the last of the last of the updates. Just want to say thanks to Lucas for being such a sport about the credit thing. Sorry!!! I know it wasn't funny.  I will give Digger T. a stern paddling when he gets back!!! You can watch ;)

It's Done!!! Kinda

So the edit is done, the credits are done, the opening animations are done!  It's been exported at 1080i and is in the process of converting to 720i. Once that is done, all I have to do is bung it up on the Vimeo and in theory when all is said and done (hopefully by morning), there will be an HD version of Blind Generation for all to see! Yay! Keep your eyes on this post for updates!!!

Almost Done! …………………………………………………………………UPDATE: Not Even Close!

Almost there! I can see the finish! The render is taking for ever at HD spec. Maybe I can have this video up by tomorrow night, that would be amazing to have this in the can. Here's to hoping.

UPDATE: Not even close!  I had to reset the render at 5am this morning because I noticed a few lighting errors.  Unfortunately the f*cker takes 7.5 hrs to render so looks like this has set me back. What a bitch!!!

The Meeting Went Well

You can measure the success of the night with two factors. Face grabbing and hand waving.  The Maitreya MV is on its way. We have an amazing concept and it's a good on, it's based on a sort of poor man's motion control system.  It's a tripod head (kinda) that is controlled by a motor, it will mimic the same motion pre programmed into it shot after shot.  Sounds like it will have some good potential, now Digger needs to weave his tale. He is headed out to ComiCon this week so lets hope he gets us lots of cash and gigs! Go Digger Go!
